Ontario CVOR truth check

CVOR Truck Numbers Ontario

Ontario requires the CVOR certificate to be carried in the cab. O.Reg 424/97 does not require exterior CVOR truck numbers, 50 mm lettering, or door placement.

What to Do Instead

Keep the current CVOR certificate in the vehicle. Use exterior CVOR references, company names, unit numbers, and GVW-style markings as professional fleet identification when they help customers, job sites, contracts, or internal operations.

If the vehicle operates into the United States, follow FMCSA 49 CFR 390.21 for legal name and USDOT number display. We build those layouts to the named authority spec.

FAQ

Do CVOR numbers have to be displayed on Ontario trucks?

No verified Ontario rule in O.Reg 424/97 requires exterior CVOR number display. Ontario requires the CVOR certificate carried in the cab.

What size do CVOR truck numbers need to be in Ontario?

Ontario O.Reg 424/97 does not set a CVOR truck-number height. We size optional fleet ID for readability and build USDOT markings to FMCSA 49 CFR 390.21 for US-bound carriers.

Do Canadian carriers operating into the US need truck numbers?

Yes. US-bound carriers need legal name and USDOT number display under FMCSA 49 CFR 390.21. That is separate from Ontario CVOR.
